Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology (AT) means devices, objects, hardware and software solutions that allow elders or people with impairments and disabilities living healthier, more independent and more dignified lives, thus encouraging them to a more active social life. Moreover, AT may help in containing costs related to health and support services, long-term care and the work of caregivers.
Examples of AT devices includes devices to support sensory deficits (hearing aids, communication aids, screen readers, screen magnifier, speech input, etc.), motor deficit (wheelchairs, walkers, prostheses, etc.), therapeutic and monitoring devices (i.e. sensorised footwear to prevent complications of the diabetic foot).
